Junk Journalling Beginners: Gutting A Vintage Book

Nigezza Creates aka Gez

Welcome to my blog, thank you for joining me today 😀

#nigezza #junkjournal #vintagebooks I have decided that 2024 is the year I use the ephemera and vintage books I have been collecting. SO I am going to be using real book covers for journal covers. So I thought it would be useful to do a video on gutting a book and preparing the cover.

Let's Make A Fabric Cover Using A Cereal Box

Nigezza Creates aka Gez

Welcome to my blog, thank you for joining me today 😀

I decided to make some journal covers ready for journals as I complete them. I generally make my cover last but am trying something new for the new year. This cover is made from a cereal box and covered in fabric.

Making Up The Ephemera From A Digital Kit

Nigezza Creates aka Gez, Independent Stampin' Up® Demonstrator

Welcome to my blog, thank you for joining me today 😀

Last Friday I published my first video in my Scan N Cut series. I demonstrated ow I use it to cut out digital images from a kit. Today I am showing you how I turn these images into ephemera for my journals.  Most kits are quite straight forward and have lines indicating where to fold. The decorating is up to your imagination :-)

Let's Make A Mini Spiral Bound Autumn/Fall Journal Part 2

Nigezza Creates aka Gez, Independent Stampin' Up® Demonstrator

Welcome to my blog, thank you for joining me today 😀

I am here with part 2 of my mini autumn journal. I am making this for a swap and am very excited to be doing this. I have decided to make it spiral bound because I really enjoyed making on of these and I am interested to see how it looks in a mini version.

I have filmed the process and the tutorials are split into 3 parts.
Part 1 - getting the paper ready and cut up for the journal - Video Here :-)
Part 2 - making the tags and decorating the pockets and pages and adding the binding
Part 3 - the flip through

I will have a play list on my YouTube channel call Mini Autumn/Fall journal so you can find all the videos there once they have all been published.

I have been horning a lovely pack of Stampin' Up! DSP from years ago and this is the perfect project to use it on. I am also using stamps from the current catalogue as well as my favourite retires stamp sets. I love how the stamp pad ink matches the DSP used.

Let's Make A Mini Spiral Bound Autumn/Fall Journal Part 2

Measurements and Materials

  • Cover made from grey board/chip board
    • 3 1/4" X 4 1/4"
  • Designer Series Paper fir front and back cover cut 1/2" bigger all way round - 3 3/4" x 4 3/4"
  • Card stock for the inside of cover 3 1/8" x 4 1/8"
  • Pockets for the inside of covers 3 1/8" x 2"
    • Score @ 1/2" on the short side
    • This gives a fold over at the top of the pocket for strength and decoration
  • Each page in the journal measures 3" x 4"
  • Pockets 2" x 3"
    • Score @ 1/2" on the short side
    • This gives a fold over at the top of the pocket for strength and decoration
  • Flip out pages 4" x 4 1/2"
    • Score @ 1 1/2" on the long side
    • This gives you a 1 1/2" flip which allows for a tab to be added & won't interfere with the spiral binding

Now watch the video tutorial to see how this was made :-)
