Junk Journal: Making Faux Vellum Using Tea Lights & Paper

Nigezza Creates aka Gez, Independent Stampin' Up® Demonstrator

Thank you for visiting my blog, I really do appreciate it. This week as part of my Junk Journal series I  am making my own vellum! I watched a youtube video showing this ages ago and decided to have a go myself. As often happens I cannot actually find the video I saw so just had to go from memory! This is not always reliable as I have a shocking memory and I watch a lot of youtube just before I go to sleep! Anyway I obviously remembered well because these turned out pretty good, even if I do say so myself!

Junk Journal: Making Vellum Using Tea Lights & Paper

Measurements & Materials

  • Paper! Any paper you would like to make into faux vellum
  • I used an Artymaze free printable which I printed on ordinary printer paper 90gsm
  • I also tried it with one of my own scanned collage sheets again printed on printer paper
  • I think it works best with thinner paper
  • I also used a vintage dictionary page, a paper napkin and a paper doily
  • I also needed
    • An iron
    • A tea light candle
    • A grater
    • Grease proof paper
  • I placed the paper I wished to turn into vellum on a sheet of grease proof paper
  • I grated the candle over the paper, just a small covering
  • I then put another sheet of greaseproof paper on top of this
  • I then ironed it so the wax melted
  • I repeated this until all the paper was covered
  • You can see the paper become transparent
  • You do not want to add to much because you don't want it to be too greasy
  • Then I decided to make some pockets and tags with the velum I had made

You can see how I made this in the tutorial :-)
